Four people were rescued Sunday from a flooded cave in Thailand where they were trapped for 16 days.

They were guided by expert divers who plotted the hours-long escape through more than four kilometres (2.5 miles) of twisting passageways and flooded chambers.

The world has watched and waited for days as rescue teams attempted to get the boys out of a cave in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

Narongsak Osottanakorn, the governor of the country's Chiang Rai Province and the leader of the rescue mission, said the dive team is working with doctors to determine the order of exit, per Forgan. A defence ministry official earlier told AFP six boys had "come out". Chiang Rai acting Gov. Narongsak Osatanakorn, who is heading the operation, said that 13 foreign and five Thai divers were taking part in the rescue and that two divers would accompany each boy as they're gradually extracted.

The four had been trapped underground with eight other boys, ages 11-16, and their 25-year-old soccer coach for more than two weeks.

"Experts' assessments indicate that today is the most ready we can be", Choorat Panngao, Provincial Police Region 5 deputy commander said. Their ordeal has drawn huge media attention in Thailand and overseas, and getting the boys out safely could be a boost for Thailand's ruling junta ahead of a general election next year. A large warning sign at the cave's entrance raises the risk of entering so close to the monsoon season, they say, and he should have known better. He also taught the boys how to meditate and how to conserve as much energy as possible until they were found.

The story of the "Wild Boars" soccer team, who first ventured into the caves more than two weeks ago before flood waters trapped them inside, has gripped Thai and global media.

The entire mission may last three to four days, as the boys are expected to come out gradually, officials said.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, he said the boys were not yet ready to dive out of the cave, a complex and risky task through twisting and jagged submerged passageways. We will have to do the next mission as successfully as the one we did today.

More than 100 exploratory holes were also bored - some shallow, but the longest 400 metres deep - into the mountainside in an attempt to open a second evacuation route and avoid forcing the boys into the risky dive. At times, the boys had to be hooked up with full-face oxygen masks as they swam through water filling the narrow, pitch-black cave channels.

Elon Musk has also dispatched engineers from Tesla, Space X, and the Boring Company.

The boys urged relatives "not to worry" and asked for their favourite food once they were safely evacuated, in notes handed to divers.

Last night, the Thai navy SEALS posted a message to their Facebook page which said: 'Have a good dream tonight.
