Australia's Aaron Finch smashed his own record for the highest individual score in a T20 worldwide on Tuesday, blasting 172 off 76 balls in a tri-series match against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Finch gave another stellar display of power hitting in the T20 tri-series match against Zimbabwe, slamming 172 off 76 balls in Australia's total of 229-2 batting first.

Unfortunately, the opener couldn't register the highest score in any T20 game as he was dismissed hit-wicket on the penultimate ball of the innings, falling short by four runs. The Australians batted first and posted a massive score of 229/2.

Finch held the previous record of highest individual knock when he made 156 against England at Southampton in 2013.

A day after leading his team from the front to a big win over the No.1 T20I side - Pakistan, Aaron Finch ran through the record books with a stunning knock.

Short eventually fell swinging across the line at fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani to be caught for 46, while Finch fell in freakish circumstances in the final over.

Finch says he only has himself to blame for not playing at Test level.

The Victorian superstar was eventually dismissed in a weird manner, chasing a wide delivery and accidentally hitting his own stumps inadvertently.

"I realized out of the hand that it was a touch wide, so I actually went to let it go and probably just didn't realize how far back onto my stumps I got".

Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar raced through four overs conceding just 16, while Andrew Tye's seamers were even more effective. He took three for 12 as Australia inflicted one last record against the Zimbabweans, the hosts slumping to their largest ever defeat in T20Is.

Australia carried on from where they left off against Pakistan on Monday after opening their campaign with a nine-wicket victory. Think we can bowl a bit better.

Australia take on Pakistan on Thursday, and Finch insisted there was no room for complacency. They lost just one wicket during the chase and crossed the line with nearly 10 overs to spare.
