  • The NZSO released its performance on Thursday with a message to the prime minister's baby

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern carries her newborn baby Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford as she walks out of the Auckland Hospital in New Zealand, June 24, 2018. She revealed the baby girl was healthy and weighed in at 7.3 pounds, before thanking the hospital staff who helped her deliver.

Laurell Ardern said she'd had people come up to her saying that her daughter had been an inspiration, including one woman who anxious a job was too hard for her, but then thought 'Well, if Jacinda can do it, I will do it'.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has left hospital with her baby daughter, saying her newly expanded family is "sleep-deprived but super well".

"Te Aroha is our way of reflecting the amount of love this baby has been shown even before she arrived.it's also the place where all my family are from and I grew up under that mountain", she said of the Waikato landmark. She'd earlier said the quest to come up with a name had been going "terribly".

"I think every new parent would probably reflect that", she said.

While Ardern had been hailed as a pacesetter, and inspiration for women who wanted to have families and careers, Gayford had also been congratulated on his choice to take time off from his job to care for his daughter.

"Actually I won't forget the look on Jacinda's face when she finally held the baby".

The baby was welcomed with congratulatory messages from world leaders and royals, including form the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, something Ms Ardern described as "mindblowing".

"Those moments have mattered as much to us as any of those lovely messages of support from around the world", she said.

Ardern has not yet made a public appearance since giving birth or announced a name for the girl.

"But it's equally special to us were just those people who took time to send a little note, or a blanket or a set of booties".

Ardern is admirable because she has reached the pinnacle of leadership, without sacrificing personal joys like marriage and parenthood.

He plans to become the primary caregiver for the child when Ardern returns to work following a leave of six weeks.

Addressing media Sunday, Ardern acknowledged the situation was viewed as somewhat novel but that she hoped one day it would be generally accepted that men and women could make such choices.

It's the couple's first child together, and comes eight months after the 37 year old was sworn in as Prime Minister.
