  • On the border Melania Trump visits the Upbring New Hope Children Center run by the Lutheran Social Services of the South in McAllen Texas an unexpected visit the day after her husband ended the policy of family separation at the border

On Thursday, the first lady traveled to Texas to visit migrant children wearing a hooded Zara jacket with the message "I really don't care, do u?".

USA first lady Melania Trump climbs into her motorcade vehicle wearing a Zara design jacket with the phrase "I Really Don't Care".

She was seen wearing a green coat with a graffiti design on the back that reads: "I really don't care, do u?"

As if Melania Trump and her husband were not already in the media spotlight when it comes to the President's harsh policy to separate children from their parents on our southern border, the First Lady may have just made things quite a bit worse for herself.

"I'd also like to ask you how I can help these children to reunite with their families as quickly as possible", she said.

When asked what message the first lady meant to send, spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said: "It's a jacket". That might very well be true, but does she need a jacket to get that point across?

Melany Trump is a former model is intentional about her wardrobe choices and is careful to choose outfits for global visits.

But a spokesperson for Melania denied any "hidden message".

The easy, knee-jerk interpretation is that she doesn't care in the slightest about the kidnapped children she's on her way to meet with. "It's my honest hope Congress will be able to reach across the aisle & find a solution!" the first lady captioned a video of her unannounced visit to McAllen, Texas.

During a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Trump instructed government agencies "to work together to keep illegal immigrant families together during the immigration process and to reunite these previously separated groups".

"The first 24 hours are crucial", a staff member told the first lady. "You'd have millions of people pouring through our border", Trump said, reprising talking points he used as recently as at a Wednesday rally in Minnesota - as first lady Melania Trump spoke softly and smiled with migrant children in McAllen, Texas.

Officials from the Defense Department and Health and Human Services said the Pentagon has agreed to provide space on military bases to hold up to 20,000 people detained after illegally crossing the Mexican border. "Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!".

Under President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy, almost 2,000 children have been separated from their parents and placed into holding facilities between April 19 and May 31 of this year, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
