Paul McCartney stuns fans in emotional edition of Carpool Karaoke

  • James Corden and Sir Paul McCartney

James travelled to his native United Kingdom record a special edition of The Late Late Show with James Corden earlier this month - and roped in the legendary Beatles musician to help him out.

James Corden is hanging out across the pond, so for his latest installment of Carpool Karaoke, he tapped into the local talent in Liverpool to be his partner in singing in the vehicle.

Within seconds, the small crowd was on its feet, and more poured through the door as word spread, as he performed A Hard Day's Night, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Love Me Do, Back in the USSR and Hey Jude.

McCartney happily obliged - and even swapped seats with Corden as they harmonized on some of The Beatles' greatest hits, including "Drive My Car" and "Blackbird". "Can you please, please help me?"

On his tour of Liverpool, McCartney points out the church where he was a choir boy, adds his autograph to the Penny Lane street sign, and visited his childhood home - a place particularly special as it's where he wrote music with fellow Beatle, John Lennon. McCartney also related a story about a dream he had in which his late mother told him everything would be all right and that he should "Just let it be", which became the inspiration for the song "Let It Be". "We expected it to last 10 years but it keeps going on and on and on and it keeps being relevant". "And I remember them playing that".

Corden said it was the "most attractive story" he had ever heard, before singing a teary rendition of the song.

The singer then went on to share a bit of background on the origins of one of their most uplifting songs, "Let It Be", off the band's final studio album in 1970.

We never thought we'd get emotional watching an episode of "Carpool Karaoke", but here we are.
