Japan's Yuya Osako (second right) celebrates after scoring their second goal during the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup Group H against Colombia at the Mordovia Arena in Saransk.

Japan and Senegal meet in a Group H clash on Sunday and, judging from their behaviour earlier this week, the stadium could be left cleaner than it ever has been before.

After the Blue Samurai's achievement of being the first Asian team to beat a South American side in a World Cup match on June 19, fans celebrated by... staying back at the Saransk stadium in Russian Federation and tidying up after themselves. America's Steve Christakos reports.

"It's not just part of the football culture but part of Japanese culture", McIntyre told BBC News at the time.

"You often hear people say that football is a reflection of culture".

"There's definitely been a decline", said former Nigeria global Peter Odemwingie, who played at the last two World Cups and is now working as a BBC pundit in Russian Federation. It is a habit drilled into citizens from a young age, with students expected to clean their school classrooms and hallways.

While we'd love to give the Senegalese fans all the credit here, we're going to have to be a tiny bit selfish, and claim that we may have had a slight influence on them.

The video clip of the dashing manager's fist-pumping celebration soon made it onto social media, where it has been hailed as "the meme of the 2018 World Cup". When Senegal and Japan meet on June 24 in Yekaterinburg, we can at least be sure that the stadium will be near spotless, whoever comes out on top.
