  • Villagers recover woman's body swallowed by giant python in Indonesia

When she didn't return by Friday morning, her sister went to look for her, but found only her footprints, flashlight, machete and slippers. More than 100 people starting looking for Tiba in the village of Persiapan Lawela on the island.

The body of an Indonesian woman was cut from the belly of a 23-foot python after it devoured her, officials have confirmed.

Wa Tiba left her home on Muna Island and walked to her cornfield that was about half a mile from her house. Upon cutting open the snake's belly, the entire body of the victim was found inside.

Indonesian villagers claimed to have captured the 447 kilograms (985 pounds) python.

According to her family, Wa Tiba wanted to check the plantation because wild boars often destroyed the crops, Tribunnews.com reported.

"The snake's belly was cut open and the body of the victim was found inside", said Hamka.

Local police chief Hamka said: "Residents were suspicious the snake swallowed the victim, so they killed it, then carried it out of the garden".

Reticulated pythons grab onto their prey with dozens of sharp curved teeth and then squeeze it to death before swallowing it whole.

In a similar occurrence, a man was also reportedly swallowed by a snake at a palm oil plantation in West Sulawesi in March 2017.

Giant pythons, which regularly top six meters (20 feet), are native to southeast Asia and count as some of the largest snakes in the world.

While the snakes have been known to attack small animals, attempts to eat people are rare. Nevertheless, just such a horror took place on an adjacent island past year, when a man's body was extracted from a 23-foot-long python, shown in a gruesome YouTube video.
