Sony’s Fortnite Response Further Angers PS4, Switch Fans

If you happened to play Fortnite on a PlayStation 4 console, do not try to port the game onto your Nintendo Switch.

In practice, that means that they will lose their existing skins, paid-for items and progress in the game. For example, an Xbox One player could compete against PC gamers. And if you want to use your Epic account to track your progress in Fortnite, well ... you can't - but why don't you just keep using your PlayStation 4. "To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account".

Sony has yet to confirm it is responsible for the constraint, but it issued the following statement to the BBC.

"We're always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience", the statement read.

Sony previously blocked cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One gamers for "Fortnite". Not only were fans excited that the popular battle royale title was coming to yet another platform, but many were hoping that would nudge Sony into the direction of cross-play since they are the only company halting that specific train. You have a developer and content owner that wants cross-play and is encouraging cross-play, and then you have the other platform holders and what it is that they do. Now, thanks to an announcement by Nintendo, it's now been confirmed that Epic will be bringing Fortnite to the Switch hardware with immediate effect. Epic Games announced during E3 2018 that more than 125 million people are playing the game.

A similar error appears if a PS4-associated account is used on the older Xbox One version of the game, though more players are discovering it this week as they try to take the game portable on the Switch. Both Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony's competitors in the market, haven't created the same blockade and allow for cross-play between the consoles.

"Sony has got to be very careful about how it manages the situation", Samantha Loveridge, associate editor of GamesRadar+ told the BBC.

All of this only adds to the negative press Sony has received due to such issues as of late.

"One way or another, gamers deserve an explanation as to why this compatibility issue exists".

For two days, Sony's Twitter account has been inundated with angry customers "thanking" the company for the mess, while the company remained quiet on the matter.
