German ChancellorAngela Merkel has called PresidentDonald Trump's choice to break ranks with USA allies-by backing out of a joint statement on social media and then deride foreign leaders-"a little depressing". After hearing Canadian prime minister's comments vowing to retaliate for United States tariffs on steel and aluminum during a news conference, Trump tweeted that Trudeau had made "false statements", and White House officials had harsh criticism for Trudeau during the Sunday morning news programs. Trump cited unfair trade and tariffs from Canada, a longtime United States ally, as one of the reasons he refused to back the joint statement.
Trump was especially "strong" towards Trudeau, ranting about agriculture, and Merkel.
"The issue of tariffs can not be looked at in isolation, we must also think about issues such as subsidies", she said.
Trump had delivered a stark warning to America's trading partners not to counter his decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

The picture is a key moment in a two-day meeting that has gone viral.
The US leader accused the G7 nations of "robbing" the US, and stated his nation had been "taken advantage of for decades and decades" in global trade.
Expectations for a breakthrough at the summit, however, are low, with USA allies focused on avoiding rupturing the G7, which in its 42-year history has tended to seek consensus on major issues.
May thanked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for organizing the summit.
Merkel also commented on the statement of the US President, informs Bloomberg.
Although Trump and Kudlow have since claimed Trudeau "stabbed us in the back" and was the reason for the U-turn, it is Trump's actions that other G7 leaders appeared to find frustrating.
Trump spent the days leading up to the meeting tweeting complaints about the summit's "indignant" host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron, arguing that both leaders refused to budge on their trade positions.
The rate of suicide deaths has been rising across the USA since at least 1999, according to new data released Thursday. That compares to 69 percent and 41 percent, respectively, among those with known mental health conditions .
Investors are also concerned about the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has threatened to terminate. Little of that tension was on display when the cameras entered the rooms of the summit, however.
