In April, he also warned Russian Federation that it should "get ready" for a USA missile strike on Syria, where Russian Federation backs President Bashar al-Assad, in a tit-for-tat exchange.

Conte was commenting from the G7 summit in Canada, where the leaders of Italy, France, Germany, the UK, Japan, Canada and the USA are gathered for top-level talks.

"I agree with him, and to have a meaningful discussion, our ministries of foreign affairs and experts should get involved and work closely together, and of course a meeting in person is necessary", Putin said.

Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation", former US ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice criticized President Donald Trump for his remarks at the G7 summit a day earlier in Charlevoix, Quebec tying former President Barack Obama to Russia's "annexation" of Crimea.

Speaking to AFP in Lithuania's capital Vilnius, senior Iranian official Massoumeh Ebtekar said Iran hoped European powers, Russian Federation and China would confirm their willingness to uphold the deal "as soon as possible because Iran can not wait forever".

Before departing for the G7 summit in Charlevoix, Que., the U.S., Trump called on the G7 leaders to let Russian Federation back in.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, speaking after Rouhani, expressed "regret" that Washington had withdrawn from the nuclear deal.

Lavrov said Russian Federation is "working fine in other formats" such as the Group of 20, TASS state news agency reported.

Putting a courageous face on a failed effort by President Donald Trump to have Russia readmitted to the world's most exclusive diplomatic club, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the G-7 represented fewer people and had less economic heft than the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

He said a meeting could take place as soon as the United States was ready and that many European countries had offered their help in making it happen.

"And in the G7, which used to be the G8, they threw Russia out - they should let Russia come back in because we should have Russia at the negotiating table", Trump added.

Russian Federation was a member of the G8 until it was suspended in 2014 when it annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine.

"No matter what country has terrorists, we must strengthen our regional cooperation and not allow them to affect regional security", he told a press conference Friday, adding that the SCO bloc had stopped "hundreds" of terrorist acts. Even as the scope of the breakdown over United States tariffs became clear, Xi was taking the podium to criticize what he said were new forms of "unilateralism" and "protectionism".

"Tomorrow we will hold the first summit of the SCO after its expansion and draw up a blueprint for its future growth", Xi said during Saturday's opening ceremony.

"Once again, nothing concrete was said", Putin said, referring to the G7 statement.

"We have been a faithful player to this commitment, we've done our best, we've shown our good intentions".

Coming in the shadow of the G7, the emphasis of Putin's visit is to deepen the political and economic partnership, and this trip has the bonus of meeting fellow SCO leaders from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India and Pakistan, and the observer states of Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, and Mongolia.
