Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Says Not Surprised By Iran's Enrichment Intentions

"Our enemies will never be able to halt our nuclear progress. It is their bad dream and will not happen", Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a televised speech.

Khamenei spoke almost a month after President Donald Trump announced the United States was pulling out of the landmark Iran nuclear deal.

The ministers' comments come a day after Ayatollah Khamenei announced that Iran would inform the United Nations nuclear watchdog that preparations for increasing uranium enrichment capacity would begin on Tuesday.

"In a letter that would be delivered to the International Atomic Energy Agency by the Iranian mission in Vienna, it has been announced that we will begin the process of increasing the capacity for the production of UF6 and UF4 gases on Monday as well as the construction of factories for the manufacturing of centrifuge rotors", Kamalvandi explained.

After the US withdrawal on May 12, Iran said it would remain in the nuclear deal only if were protected from renewed USA sanctions on key sectors of its economy such as oil, in cooperation with other signatories of the pact.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kicked off a three-day trip on Monday to persuade the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom to abandon the Iran nuclear deal, meeting Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin to discuss the threat he says Tehran poses to his country and the wider Middle East.

Katz addressed Tehran's threat to restart uranium enrichment at an "industrial level" if the 2015 pact falls apart.

A spokesman for Iran's atomic energy agency said preparations would be made to increase the pace of uranium enrichment even further if the JCPOA collapses.

'The Arabs and Israel surely would be there too'.

Spinning centrifuges convert the gases into enriched uranium that can be used for reactor fuel and medical isotopes.

The message should be that "if the Iranians return" to enriching uranium that could enable them to build a nuclear bomb, 'a military coalition will be formed against them, ' Katz told Israeli public radio station Kan. "The day before yesterday, Ayatollah Khamenei, the ruler of Iran, declared his intention to destroy Israel", Netanyahu said, according to The Times of Israel.

Afterwards, the two leaders were asked about a Sunday tweet from Khamenei's account saying his country's "stance against Israel is the same stance we have always taken".

Mark Dubowitz, the head of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and a prominent critic of the agreement, said Iran's announced plans will not rescue the agreement as more companies shun the country for fear of running afoul of renewed USA sanctions.

Merkel has acknowledged that while European powers see the JCPOA as the best guarantee against an Iran with nuclear weapons, it is "not flawless".

Iran denies the pursuit of an atomic programme for military purposes.

Netanyahu met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday, his first stop in trying to convince also France and Britain to withdraw. "Now that Iran is rebuilding its nuclear infrastructure, it's hard to see how conflict can be avoided-Israel has made it clear that a nuclear Iran is not an option, and Iran is all but daring Israel to stop it", Chris Meserole, a Middle East expert at the Brookings Institution, told Newsweek. He said, 'I will cancel or change the agreement.' There was no change, he canceled it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the tweet "quite extraordinary" while the Israeli Embassy in the USA had a different response.
