  • ABC cancels 'Roseanne' following Roseanne Barr's racist Twitter rant

Between Roseanne Barr's racist meltdown on Twitter and ABC canceling her show, two lesbians associated with the show called her out. "Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the disgusting statements made and said about me on ABC", Trump tweeted.

Gilbert was then forgiven soon after by Roseanne, who tweeted: 'no, I understand her position and why she said what she said. i forgive her.

For her part, Jarrett said during an MSNBC town hall later that day that she hopes this entire episode will be "a teaching moment".

ABC Entertainment canceled "Roseanne" on Tuesday after Barr published a now-deleted tweet that included a racist slur against former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. On Monday, the comedienne wrote, "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby = vj".

She also retweeted a long post by Michael Fishman, who played her son, D.J. In his tweet, the actor bemoaned the impact of Barr's words on the cast and crew and said the show's story lines were often about inclusiveness. Replying to one of her fans, she admits "I honestly thought she was Jewish and Persian-ignorant of me for sure, but.i did".

Hours after she vowed to quit Twitter, Roseanne resurfaced on the internet to insist that she had only made the racist "joke" about Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett because she was all loopy on Ambien.

Barr said that she would leave Twitter as a result of the backlash she faced.

Barr finally addressed her conflicting bevy of back-and-forth apologies, remarks and retweets, telling critics that, if they don't like what she has to say, they don't have to read her posts.

"But let's move on today's big news breaking in Hollywood", he said, before showing news segments covering ABC's decision to cancel its highest-rated show after Roseanne Barr's tweets.

"Our goal was to promote constructive discussion about the issues that divide us", said Tom Werner.

Barr also continued to tweet about George Soros, a liberal donor who has been painted as the villain in many right-wing conspiracy theories.

Three weeks earlier, "Roseanne" was the toast of ABC's annual presentation of its programming plans to advertisers. "Therefore, we are removing the original Roseanne series from the Laff schedule for the time being, effective immediately", a Laff spokesperson said in a statement.
