Trump Jr. says he didn't tell his Dad before meeting Russians

  • Trump Jr admitted to Congress he sought to obtain compromising material on then Democratic Party front-runner Hillary Clinton

The Senate Judiciary Committee released 2,500 pages of congressional testimony on Wednesday.

The House report had argued that the intelligence community "did not employ proper analytic tradecraft" in gauging Russian President Vladimir Putin's intentions.

Republican Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr said Wednesday that there's "no doubt" Russian Federation tried to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Nonetheless, Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee said in a report Wednesday that their preliminary investigation turned up "a number of documents" suggesting Russian Federation used connections to the NRA "as a means of accessing and assisting Mr. Trump and his campaign".

Mr Goldstone said that he and Ms Shugart worked through Mr Emin Agalarov, who told them the meeting would have to be arranged by his father, Mr Aras Agalarov, who Mr Emin Agalarov felt had the necessary gravitas.

"It's not illegal to meet with someone to find out what they have to offer", Smith said.

The investigation of interference of Moscow in legislative chambers has been developed in parallel with one initiated nearly a year ago by special prosecutor Robert Mueller, and which tries to clarify if re was said Conchabanza between Kremlin and circle of Trump.

Senate Judiciary Democrats said the transcripts are just "one piece of a much larger puzzle" and do not tell the entire story because some participants were not interviewed and Republican chairman, Sen.

Phone records shared with the committee show that the younger Mr. Trump called a blocked number before and after calls with Emin Agalarov, a pop star in Russian Federation whose family is friendly with the Trumps, to arrange the meeting, and again on the night of the meeting.

"The Russian effort was extensive, sophisticated and ordered by President Putin himself for the goal of helping Donald Trump and hurting Hillary Clinton", said Sen. During his two years as ambassador, McFaul recalled, only three Americans outside of the government got an audience with Putin: former secretary of state Henry Kissinger; then-ExxonMobil chief executive Rex Tillerson, who would become Trump's first secretary of state; and actor Steven Seagal, known for his outspoken support for Putin. "He was nearly like lying there, like, you know, on his phone, and it's through the whole meeting", Akhmetshin said.

Last December, Trump Jr. told House lawmakers that he couldn't answer questions about what he told his father after the meeting, citing attorney-client privilege, Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said afterward.

"You could tell that they were not interested, and they were like looking at their phones or like, you know, just looking the other way, their watch", Akhmetshin told the committee.

It was unclear whether Mr Agalarov delivered the letter to Mr Putin or whether Mr Putin responded.

The top Democrat on the House intelligence committee agreed.

He said the information had come from the "Crown prosecutor of Russian Federation", which isn't an official government title in Russian Federation, but "crown prosecutor" is roughly the equivalent of the attorney general in Goldstone's native Great Britain.

Kushner, who Grassley previously said had been "spooked" out of testifying, and Manafort, who has since been indicted on money laundering and assorted other charges, did not appear before the committee.

When asked if he remembered details of the calls, Mr. Trump replied, "I don't". None has wavered from the conclusions about Russian interference in the election, according to senators who were in the room.

Agalarov was a partner of Trump's in staging the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow in 2013.
