  • Why Nawaz Sharif has admitted to Pakistan's role in 26/11 attack now

NO matter what his political opponents or critics say about him, he knows the art of inspiring others through his extraordinary abilities of standing firm and delivering in toughest situations These lines certainly can be attributed to none other than Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif who has emerged as a respected figure and earned praise and admiration not only at home but also overseas. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? "Explain it to me", he had said, in a clear reference to the Mumbai killings blamed on 10 Pakistani terrorists.

Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the 12th Prime Minister of Pakistan, who took over the office since June 2013.

Nawaz Sharif's recently given statements about 2008 Mumbai attacks have created sparks in the nation.

Sharif's claim on the Pakistani establishment's support for terror groups was in reference to the global community not accepting Islamabad's "narrative" of being a "victim" of terrorism.

Presided over by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the meeting was attended by Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah, Defense and Foreign Minister Khurram Dastgir, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Zubair Hayat, the director-generals of Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence, and the three services chiefs.

The latest setback to the trial was last month, when the Pakistan interior ministry removed the chef prosecutor for "not taking the government line".

Furthermore, the PML-N spokesman had also issued a statement saying that the remarks of the party Quaid had been grossly misinterpreted by the Indian media. "Unfortunately, a section of Pakistani electronic and social media has intentionally or unintentionally not only validated but has lent credence to the malicious propaganda of Indian media without going through the full facts of the statement", he said.

With the Pakistani general elections slotted for this year, and in the backdrop of Sharif's own fall from political power at the hands of the judiciary, his remarks are being seen as an attempt to malign the country's institutions.

In an interview to Dawn newspaper, Sharif had lamented that the case against the accused in the attacks was being dragged in Pakistan deliberately. "Nawaz speaking Modi's language against Pakistan State simply to protect his ill-gotten Rs 300 billion stashed in his son's companies overseas".

He claimed that although Pakistan had cooperated with the Indian government for information-sharing regarding every terrorist incident, India had not reciprocated for incidents taking place inside Pakistan.

Sharif, in an interview to Pakistan daily "Dawn" stated that militant organizations were growing in Pakistan and "non-state actors" were responsible for the series of coordinated attacks in Mumbai.
