Mauricio Pochettino: Tottenham manager says club must 'take risks' to improve

  • Tottenham Hotspur's Argentinian head coach Mauricio Pochettino looks on during the English FA Cup semi-final football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Wembley

Erik Lamela of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates after scoring his sides third goal during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City at Wembley Stadium on May 13, 2018 in London, England.

The north Londoners, who were already assured of Champions League football next season, secured their third successive top-three Premier League finish by edging a insane nine-goal thriller against Leicester.

And the Spurs manager has challenged the club to loosen the purse strings, saying: 'Today 100 per cent (I will be manager) but tomorrow it can change.

"When we work with all the squad we can not be thinking about anything other than the future at Leicester".

"That's up to Daniel and the club".

'If we want to play and be real contenders for big, big trophies, yes, we need to review a little.

"I think it is not the only thing in football to win titles, but I think after to win in every single aspect I think this club, these group of players, people working here and the fans deserve to celebrate some trophy".

"They have a clear idea of what we need to do and I don't know if the club will agree with me or not but we need to talk next week to create the new project or what I think we need to do together again to try and improve". We need to deliver the best way to try and win. We need to think our reality is different and our fans need to think and be happy and support us because we are not a club who will spend insane money. We can not think we are the cleverest people in the world winning trophies spending small money.

But Erik Lamela scored twice either side of having the shot that a luckless Christian Fuchs diverted into his own goal, before Harry Kane netted the victor after Vardy's second had levelled the score at 4-4. When you create that feeling, anything can happen in football. But we need to take risks.

"I think Daniel is going to listen to me". We need to work harder than the previous season to be competitive again.

"Last season, we finished second but it is not enough because we didn't win the Premier League", the boss said.
