  • Microsoft expands Xbox One digital game gifting, adds PC games as well

The company which enabled this feature for Xbox One users previous year is now bringing the same feature to all Windows 10 users who download, install and play games from the Microsoft Store.

Best yet, Microsoft has added PC games and PC downloadable content like map packs and skins to the mix.

One of the odder things about each console's digital storefront is that you can't actually gift games to your friends. For example, purchasers can only buy two discounted products - and a total of 10 discounted products - in a 14-day period (there's no limit for gift purchases made at full price).

Steam, for all of its faults, has some really nice features, and one of those is gifting.

Gifting games isn't anything new.

In a recent announcement by Microsoft, the company has offered its users to gift digital PC games and other downloadable stuff through its online store for Windows 10. It was initially only possible on PC as consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One were lacking this now-essential feature used by many gamers.

While the program is being expanded, there are still some limitations; for example, this still doesn't include Xbox and Xbox 360 games that are playable on the Xbox One via the Backward Compatibility program.

You would need to click the "Buy as Gift" option and provide the email address of the recipient for whom the gift is being bought.

Then starting on May 20 and lasting through May 26, your purchase of an Xbox One X system will snag you a $50 gift card at participating retailers.

There are also some rules to keep in mind as mentioned below. Also, you can't gift across regions with this function - the person you're sending the gift to needs to be in the same region where the game or content was purchased. But when I want to play an Xbox exclusive game on the PC, I don't just use the Microsoft Store and Xbox apps-I suffer through the experience.
