North Korea has a habit of detaining Americans for small offenses and then usually/hopefully freeing them when the US sends an official visitor to bail them out.

He's also met with USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo, who this week brought home the American hostages.

"Frankly we didn't think it was going to happen and it did", Mr Trump said after thanking Mr Kim for releasing the men.

President Donald Trump will make history when he sits down with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un in Singapore next month.

Some have argued that since President Trump's breakthrough with Kim Jong Un, the potential for denuclearization in the Korean Peninsula warrants the Nobel Peace Prize. "Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!"

"North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did a great service to himself and to his country by doing this".

Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song and Tony Kim were released Wednesday. "I think there's a complete agreement about what the ultimate objectives are", he said. "I said, 'Welcome home.' He said, 'God bless America, '" said State Department official Brian Hook, who was with Pompeo in North Korea. In addition normalization of relations between the two nations and other weighted topics, the stated goal of the summit is the denuclearization of DPRK's weapons program and stability on the Korean peninsula.

Malcolm Turnbull says the meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong-un is welcome, but he remains cautious.

North and South Korea have technically remained at war since the 1950s when an armistice - rather than a peace treaty - ended Korean War fighting.

In Seoul, South Korea's presidential office, Cheong Wa Dae, welcomed the announcement of the summit.

While the two leaders have been trading barbs over the United States and North Korea's capabilities and nuclear power, the two nations have, of late, been trying to build a relation. "We are very, very happy".

Although U.S. officials considered meeting in the Korean demilitarized zone or Mongolia, Singapore ultimately won out because of its neutrality and infrastructure.

Pompeo said he had a "good" conversation with North Koreans and did his best to convey the U.S. message to them.
