Dialogue brokered by Seoul has seen US-North Korea relations go from trading personal insults and threats of war a year ago to a summit between Kim and President Donald Trump due in Singapore on June 12.

With possible peace between North and South Korea coming closer, Koreans in the Ozarks share their point of view of the situation.

"I have mapped surface displacement from many geodynamic processes such as earthquakes, volcano eruptions, landslides, but I have never seen such a large displacement caused by human activity", says study co-author Teng Wang, a remote-sensing and geodesy researcher at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.

The closure was n announced in May - without giving precise dates - of only known nuclear testing facilities in North Korea, those of Punggye-ri, near border with China, to journalists and global experts who will be invited to attend Process. The president also thanked the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong un, for releasing the prisoners early, calling it "a wonderful thing", and adding that he believes Kim "really wants to do the right thing".

North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs pledged transparency and laid out plans Saturday to dismantle the country's nuclear testing site.

"Now that North Korea has accepted in principle that agreements should be verified, US negotiators should hold them to this standard for any subsequent agreement", said Adam Mount, a senior defence analyst at the Federation of American Scientists.

"North Korea agrees in a certain time table to give up nukes and inspectors go in", told the person who requested anonymity to Alex Ward of Vox.

He is now preparing for the first ever face-to-face meeting between a sitting American president and a North Korean leader, scheduled for June 12 in Singapore.

That decision was later reiterated by South Korea's Presidential Blue House in the days following a historic inter-Korean summit.

The objective of the visit to Pyongyang Pompeo called "complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula".

The United States is willing to help North Korea's economy flourish if the North gets rid of its nuclear weapons, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday.

Chinese state media have asserted that the United States must offer North Korea "attractive rewards" if it wishes to see the nation abide by global law.

As the three men walked down the steps of the plane flashing the "V" for victory sign, they appeared to be in good health - a far cry from the comatose state of 22-year-old U.Va. student Otto Warmbier upon his release from a North Korean prison.

An example of a country that accepted US economic help is Japan after World War II, which was able to recover after losing the war.

When North Korea detonated its most recent nuclear weapon deep inside its mountain test site, the peak's flanks heaved up and outwards by a few metres, according to a detailed reconstruction of the event and its aftermath.

North Korea has conducted all six of its nuclear tests in Punggye-ri in the northeast since 2006.

He said the USA wants to ensure that its efforts yield the end result, that North Korea should not become a threat to the world.

Kim's regime also carried out missile tests that convinced United States intelligence officials, including Pompeo in his former role as CIA director, that North Korea could threaten United States cities.
