Li, Abe, Moon to cooperate over North Korea denuclearisation

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Wednesday his nation will normalize ties with North Korea if the nuclear and missile issues, along with that of the abduction of Japanese citizens, are solved comprehensively.
"We must take the recent momentum towards denuclearization on the Korean peninsula and towards peace and security in Northeast Asia, and, cooperating even further with global society, make sure this is linked to concrete action by North Korea", Abe told a news conference after the meeting.
Strengthening trilateral cooperation, Li said, not only meets the needs of the three countries, but also accords with the expectations of the region and the worldwide community at large.
"As long as relevant parties eliminate the hostile policy and security threats against North Korea, North Korea does not need to have nuclear weapons, and denuclearization is achievable, " Kim said, according to Xinhua.
In what Li called a symbol of Chinese friendship toward Japan, Beijing also agreed to donate to Tokyo a pair of crested ibises - the first such gift in 11 years - to help facilitate the artificial breeding of the special national treasure.
The Abe-Moon meeting took place after the two leaders and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang held a three-way summit in the Japanese capital in the morning.
The two also agreed on the possibility of starting research activities regarding a railway project to connect their two countries, via North Korea, it said.
While the three leaders were holding talks on Wednesday, US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, arrived in Pyongyang to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ahead of the first-ever US-North Korean summit between President Donald Trump and Kim, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported.
North Korea has recently voiced its commitment to denuclearization.
Abe and Moon agreed that his visit to Japan, the first in seven years by a South Korean president, symbolized the resumption of shuttle diplomacy between Tokyo and Seoul.
Abe said he is "looking forward to visiting China (again) at an appropriate time" following a request from Li.
China, Japan and South Korea are three big economies in the world, and are each other's key partner in trade and economic cooperation, said the Chinese premier, adding that they shoulder great responsibilities for boosting regional development, guiding regional economic integration and safeguarding regional peace and stability.
