During the first day keynote, Aparna Chennapragada spoke about some new features for Google Maps, where she discussed how the requirements that users have for Google Maps has changed, and much more is needed.

Subscriptions to premium news outlets can now easily be done through Google News, without the need of manually putting in credit card and other information by the end-user, if so desired.

Newscast is a new feature for Google News that gives users a unique and custom tailored landing page on their phones or smart device that automatically organizes types of media, such as videos and articles related to the same story, putting it all together in one, cohesive package, with fact-checks, deep analysis to make sure the user gets the best, most accurate source of news on any given topic, all done live, making it easier and safer, to follow breaking stories as they happen. You'll be able to see dining, event, and activity options in any area that you're looking.

The "For You" section is accompanied by a new "Match Score" feature that custom-tailor restaurant recommendations based on users' personal preferences.

The new "For you" tab is the best way to stay on top of the latest and greatest happening in the areas you're into. You'll see the reasoning behind each number, based on factors such as what Google knows about the business, your food and drink preferences (which you've previously selected in Maps), the places you've been to, and whether you've rated a restaurant or added it to a list.

Group Planning: Add places to shareable lists, which friends and family can also add to and vote on.

While on stage at I/O, Google also debuted a new navigation system that uses Street View and AR to guide you to your destination.

Instead of relying on an unclear blue dot while walking around a cluttered city, Google suggests this camera-fueled augmented reality interface may one day save the day. They will also be able to get help with directions from a nifty fox. The app which is actually meant for giving directions to its users, now, has an added responsibility to assist them in discovering the needed places like restaurants, malls, theatres etc. Well, based on your Maps data, Google can determine this, then provide a matched location along with a probability that you'll enjoy it.

Google Maps received quite a bit of love at this year's Google I/O, with numerous new features announced said to come a little later this year.
