  • CIA Director-nominee Gina Haspel attends the ceremonial swearing in for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the State Department in Washington

Haspel's offer to withdraw on Friday was prompted by growing concern among her supporters that White House staff were becoming nervous that the nomination was in trouble, the sources said.

Haspel was said to be concerned about debate over her involvement in the CIA's now-defunct program of detaining and brutally interrogating terror suspects after 9/11 as she prepared for Wednesday's confirmation hearing.

Trump has nominated Haspel to succeed Mike Pompeo, who became secretary of state last month. She is expected to reiterate that publicly this week.

She's got received robust backing from former intellect, diplomatic, military and national security officials, that praise her intensive intellect career.

Furthermore, that the Central Intelligence Agency has sent substances into the Senate, some classified, which the lawmakers could read to comprehend not simply her job in the counter terrorism Center, which oversaw the harsh interrogation app, but in addition other elements of her 33-year career, including over thirty years undercover. She's not withdrawing her nomination. While the CIA recently agreed to shed light on some of her records, the intelligence agency maintained that certain details about her career must remain classified.

Earlier the White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also -a bit overzealously- dashed to defend Trump's nominee, facing harsh criticism for playing the feminist and women's empowerment card way too openly. As of Saturday, Haspel has made a decision to stick with her nomination.

The release of the disciplinary review may persuade some lawmakers who had been undecided to support Haspel, said congressional officials tracking the nomination process. She also feared unfair attacks on her own reputation, saying that she didn't want to be "the next Ronny Jackson", one official said.

Just like different nominations, this one hit a road block however is straight back on trail, mentioned a third administration official familiar with the time and effort to acquire her confirmed. Eventually the tension seemed to ease, and as of now her nomination stands, the sources said.

Sanders issued a tweet in support of Haspel and rebuking her detractors on Capitol Hill late Saturday afternoon.
