Modi to interact with BJP candidates in Karnataka

  • Political temperatures on the rise as poll date approaches in Karnataka

In the run-up to the Karnataka assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday interact with all candidates, office bearers, elected representatives and karyakartas of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state via the NaMo App.

He further said the Prime Minister may come and go, but here it is a battle between him and Yeddyurappa, and the saffron party knows who is winning in the May 12 Assembly polls.

In a blistering attack over Siddaramaiah's "imports" comment, the BJP said his attempt to divide North and South India is "disgusting" and added it understands his anxiety over being "rejected" by his constituents. "How much lower can you stoop Mr. CM?"

However, soon after the Karnataka CM took to Twitter early Wednesday morning, April 25, to voice his opinion, the state BJP wing wasted no time to retaliate as it tweeted "Imports?"

Stating that it is time they teach CM definition of "Import", the BJP said, "Bring (goods or services) into a country from overseas".

A BJP statement said he would also speak to party workers and provide them "guidance" as they campaign for the polls to the 224-member assembly.

A record number of 2,407 candidates have filed nominations for the May 12 Karnataka assembly elections, with a whopping 1,280 of them doing on Tuesday, the last date to enter the fray.

The Rashtriya Basava Sena on Tuesday claimed that the Lingayat community in poll-bound Karnataka no longer sees former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa as a leader.

He pointed out that the Congress government in Karnataka demonstrated moral courage by withdrawing those six cases from the CBI and formed a separate SIT by the state police to probe the illegal mining case. Local media quoted its Karnataka head as saying this week that the party had no "secret pact" with the BJP as suggested by Congress leaders in the state.

Accusing the BJP of betraying Kannadigas and protecting the Reddy brothers, the party official said iron ore valued at Rs 35,000 crore was mined, extracted and sold to domestic and export markets illegally, as revealed in the probe report.
