The judge and two lay judges, who must decide on the verdict, watched as the prosecution showed images of her mutilated body and played a selection of more than 140 internet video clips found on Madsen's computer and iPhone.

Madsen, 47, had denied murder and said Wall died accidentally inside the submarine, but he has confessed to cutting up her body and throwing the body parts into the sea.

Madsen was charged with homicide, dismemberment and the indecent handling of a corpse.

The judge said the court found Madsen's explanations "untrustworthy", noting that he provided no reasonable explanation for why he brought the objects on board.

A Danish submarine inventor was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted of killing a Swedish reporter.

Despite the testimony of many experts, the lack of tangible evidence in the case and the decomposed state of Wall's remains made it impossible to determine an exact cause of death.

Burkoe stated Wednesday that Madsen's clarification that Kim Wall died in an accident "shouldn't be credible and isn't in line with the next determination to dismember the physique".

Wall, a 30-year-old freelance journalist, set out on the submarine on August 10 to interview Madsen, the co-founder of an organization that develops and builds manned spacecraft.

The decide stated Madsen's crimes have been dedicated in an particularly "severe and brutal method to a randomly chosen girl, who had accepted his provide to go on a visit within the submarine".

She had travelled to remote corners of the world and was attracted by off-beat, under reported and sometimes quirky stories.

Hours later, Mr Madsen was rescued from his sinking submarine in a bay south of the Danish capital.

Madsen will be the 25th person to now serve a life sentence in the Nordic nation, which has a reputation as tranquil and safe.

There is no doubt that he murdered Kim Wall on objective and that he had a sexual motive, the prosecutor said.

"The interest in the case has been enormous", Buch-Jepsen said in his January statement.

Madsen was taken into custody August 12 and has since repeatedly altered his account of the circumstances that led to Wall's death.

The court heard how the injuries inflicted on Wall reflected the content of more than 40 violent video clips found on Madsen's laptop. He told prosecutors at the time he panicked and gave Wall a "burial at sea". "There was a risk of having a submarine with two deaths", he told the court.

Her dismembered body was discovered in a bay near Copenhagen past year. Another bag contained a knife and Wall's clothing.

He also said Wall's torso had multiple stabs. Madsen was found guilty of all charges.
