Apple has revealed a component failure in a limited number of MacBook Pros has caused built-in battery to expand, and has said it will offer worldwide free replacement for such batteries.

Apple explains that an unspecified component within the battery of affected 13-inch MacBook Pros can fail causing the batteries to swell and expand.

Apple is replacing batteries on a number of MacBook Pro laptops. If it's covered, you can get the battery replaced at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Retail Store, or by sending it to the Apple Repair Center.

Apple will determine the eligibility for fix through a device's serial number.

If your machine is eligible, the replacement process involves one of three options and the service could take 3-5 days to complete. However, Apple didn't reveal the actual number of MacBooks that have been affected by the issue.

Customers are told to enter in their serial number at this page to see if their unit is eligible. It is worth noting that you should backup all your data before giving it for the replacement.

The Cupertino-headquartered tech giant claimed that there have been issues with a "small" number of MacBook Pros, assembled between October 2016 and October 2017, 9to5Mac reported on Friday.

Apple has officially unveiled a new program for the Macbook Pro laptop users. This issue was addressed by Apple on its support page, however, the company did not give the exact figures of the pieces that are affected due to this problem. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the fix.
