  • Wisconsin unemployment remains at record-low 2.9 percent

"More people are working in Wisconsin than ever before, and thanks to our pro-jobs environment and highly-skilled, dependable workforce, we are maintaining record-low unemployment levels across the state". He said those measures also show a record-low amount of people out of work.

The number of unemployed workers in the state fell to 253,000 in March, 9,000 fewer than a month prior and 40,000 fewer than March 2017. Growth was led by local governments, which added 5,300 jobs to their payrolls.

Pennsylvania's unemployment rate dropped by two-tenths of a percentage point since March of 2017.

The biggest decline was 1,800 in construction and 1,200 each in manufacturing and financial activities.

The leisure and hospitality industry contracted 0.7 percent compared to this time a year ago while retail employment is down 0.1 percent.

This is in stark contrast to the rest of the nation, where the labor force grew by more than 8.5 million over the same time, or 5.8 percent.

Okaloosa and St. Johns counties had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 3 percent, followed by Monroe County (3.1 percent) and Franklin, Orange, Seminole, and Walton counties (3.2 percent).

Together, those three sectors accounted for almost 60 percent of the jobs created over the year.

In Brevard County, where space-related companies are now hiring hundreds of people, the jobless rate remained steady at 3.8 percent for March, down from 4.3 percent a year ago.

Among Florida metros, Tampa Bay added the second-highest number of jobs year over year — 28,700 — second to the Orlando area with 43,700 jobs over the year. "In fact, our construction industry is recording its highest weekly wages in more than a decade". There was a decrease of 100 federal jobs. Over the year, Trade, Transportation and Utilities gained 1,900 (+0.3%) jobs.
