The Labour leader was, however, backed by the Jewish Voice for Labour, who said: "We are appalled by the actions and statements of the Board of Deputies".

A letter sent to Corbyn, who is avowedly pro-Palestinian, also stated that his "public hatred" of Israel's state policies acted as a deterrent to any constructive relations.

Israel's Labor Party has suspended relations with UK Labour over claims that Jeremy Corbyn has allowed "hostility" to the Jewish community.

"It is my responsibility to acknowledge the hostility you have shown to the Jewish community and the anti-Semitic statements and actions you have allowed as leader of the Labour party UK", Israeli Labor Party leader Avi Gabbay wrote in a letter to Corbyn, distributed to the media.

Some 250 demonstrators gathered in Westminster today to criticise the Labour leader's approach to tackling anti-Semitism in the party.

There are some areas where the two parties will continue to work together, he added, but "we can not retain relations with you, Leader of Labour Party UK".

Gabbay's declaration comes as Corbyn and Britain's Labour Party finds itself engulfed in the midst of yet another anti-Semitism scandal. I have informed all Labour Israel staff, Members of Knesset, and elected leaders of the Labour Party Israel of the suspension of ties with your office.

James Sorene, CEO of Israel and Middle East think tank BICOM said: "The Israeli Labour Party has been close to its United Kingdom sister party for decades".

He said: "I think it's council housing, properly funded with direct labour, it's getting the private contractors out of the National Health Service and having it fully funded, properly funded by general taxation, and it's investment in work because I think secure work, where everyone has a place is essential for a coherent society".

Mr Corbyn said the Labor Party should have had the "courtesy" to have spoken to him before severing relations.

The Labour Party has yet to provide a comment on the letter.

In his letter, Mr Gabbay, the leader of Israel's main opposition party, hails its "long history of friendship" with UK Labour.

In an apologetic video message for the Jewish holy holiday of Passover following the incident, Corbyn said, "we in the Labour movement will never be complacent about antisemitism".

Over the weekend, the Campaign Against Antisemitism held their own rally outside the Labour Party's London HQ.

This week Corbyn slammed Israel's handling of the protests in Gaza on Friday, calling for the United Nations to launch an investigation into the killings of 29 Palestinians as well as reviewing the UK's sale of arms to Israel.
