Apple Music now has over 40 million subscribers and a new boss

The last we heard, Apple Music had surpassed 38 million subscribers back in March.

Apple on Wednesday announced that long-time employee, Oliver Schusser, who has over 14 years of experience under his belt working at the Cupertino company, has been made the new Vice President of Apple Music and International Content.

With Schusser's promotion, Apple marketing exec Tracey Hannelly has now been promoted to lead worldwide services in 155 markets.

On a comparable basis, the Apple Music agency has 48 million subscribers, 40 million people whom have been paying subscribers and 8 million of whom are on a absolutely free trial, " Apple said.

Before being promoted, Schusser has worked on content projects in markets other than the United States for the App Store, iBooks, Podcasts, iTunes movies', and more. The new figures show that another 2 million signed up from March to April (a gain of 5.3%) to pay for Apple Music.

Spotify, however, remains far out in front, with around 75m subscribers around the globe.
