Cubs Shut Out The Crew

10 April, 2018, 20:46 | Author: Sara Gill
  • When the Cubs play their first home game of the 2018 season they may do so without star first basemen Anthony Rizzo

The Chicago Cubs have rescheduled their home opener to Tuesday because of a steady snowfall over Wrigley Field.

Brandon Morrow got three outs for his first save since signing with the Cubs in the offseason.

Snow blanketed the playing field early in the morning, and odd as it seemed, the sprinklers were turned on to keep the grass warm.

This series was especially frustrating for fans, as the Cubs didn't play particularly well.

Their command appeared to be good.

The Cubs' pitching rotation will remain the same, Maddon said. "But I'm really proud of our guys". "When we're going to continue to be in the strike zone like we have been, I mean you see the results".

But seriously, Maddon was fine with Monday's postponement. "So I thought it was the right thing to do".

"Whatever he's going to have tonight dinner dinner-wise is going to taste better, sleep is going to be much more tranquil and if he had a dog with him on the road he's going to love his puppy even more", Maddon said. The team has Tuesday off, which would give Rizzo an additional day to rest before potentially returning Wednesday.

The Cubs postponement becomes the 11th one so far for the Major League Baseball 2018 season due to winter weather, according to SportsNet.

Chicago, IL, USA; A general shot of the grounds crew at Wrigley Field in the snow prior to a game between the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Now, Nova will look to extend the Pirates' torrid start in the first of a three-game series at Wrigley Field, where Pittsburgh finished 4-5 last season.

However, the team's batting average of.223 is fourth from the bottom.

The Cubs totaled eight hits and seven BB with Kris Bryant 3-3 with a solo homer while Ian Happ knocked in two followed Ben Zobrist with an RBI and run. Everybody's excited, wants to get it in today.

"We need to get some type of stability about us". "It's the reason why we play this many games and it's a game of averages, because there's going to be some ups and downs".
