  • Kenya Lionesses progress to Hong Kong quarters unbeaten

Muller du Plessis scored a hat-trick as the Blitzboks beat Spain 38-5 in the Cup quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens on Sunday.

The most successful team in the tournament's history, Fiji matched England's record title run from 2002-06; it's also the team's sixth title in seven years and 16th overall.

Captain Jerry Tuwai stressed the defense and Josua Vakurunabili finished on the outside for the opening try.

Two yellow cards in the first half for Kenya's Collins Injera and Willy Ambaka allowed the Pacific islanders to take a 17-0 lead at half-time.

Moments later, Ambaka joined Injera in the sin-bin for a tackle off the ball, and Kenya was down to five players against seven.

New Zealand has maintained third place in the world sevens series standings after a fourth place finish at the Hong Kong tournament.

They opened with wins over Russian Federation (36-5) and Samoa (19-12) to book a quarter-final berth but could do nothing to stop the 17-time Hong Kong champions, who are chasing a fourth successive win at the famed tournament.

Tries from Billy Odhiambo and Oscar Ouma put factors on the board for Kenya after the break, however Fiji's early lead proved insurmountable.

Tone Ng Shiu's try was the lone Kiwi bright point in a match between two teams fielding second-choice lineups, with both having sent their best players to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games.

Kenya maintains their position seven with 81 points with three legs remaining to the end of the HSBC Sevens Series while Fiji retains their second position with 123 points after seven rounds.
