With AP Photos.Bayern Munich has defeated Bavarian rival Augsburg 4-1 to win its record-extending sixth consecutive Bundesliga title.

Corentin Tolisso, James Rodriguez, Arjen Robben and Sandro Wagner scored for Bayern after an own goal by Niklas Suele gave Augsburg a shock lead.

It highlights a brilliant turnaround inspired by Jupp Heynckes, who was appointed for his fourth spell in charge back in October following the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti. A relentless, nearly inevitable march to the title ended on Saturday when Bayern underlined its dominance of the Bundesliga with a record-extending sixth successive championship.

Bayern had been in complete control at the top even before the turn of the year and have gone on to win the title at a canter.

"He's not only a great coach but a great person", Heynckes said.

The coach, who is going back into retirement at the end of the season, also congratulated Ancelotti for his role in the title success.

However, he credited the players and his backroom staff with the title win.

"I have a very well functioning coaching team and everyone does their job excellently".

Though winning the league this season is impossible as Real Madrid sit 13 points adrift of league leaders Barcelona, they do have a firm chance of winning the Europe's premier club competition yet again.

26- Robert Lewandowski has arguably been the vital element for Bayern this season, scoring 26 times in the Bundesliga.

"It's always nice to win the title, but to be honest: we knew it was coming, it was nearly impossible for things to go wrong", said the Dutchman.

"The young people have their headphones, they listen to own music", he added.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's French left winger Franck Ribery, 35, said, "It is always a special moment".

"We have worked for this since the start of the year and we have a super squad".
