Patriots' Julian Edelman helped stop a possible school shooting

  • Patriots' Julian Edelman May Have Thwarted a School Shooting

The Patriot receiver, who was out all past year with a busted knee, was alerted to the troubling comment on his Instagram account last month, the New York Times reported. When the police arrived at the address, they found a 14-year-old boy, who, they said, admitted to posting the threat.

The Port Huron Police Department said the boy was directing his threat toward his middle school.

Police also said they found two rifles in the teen's home that belonged to his mother.

Per Belson, Edelman thought about the Stoneman Douglas High school shooting in Parkland, Florida in February - where Nicholas Cruz shot and killed 17 people and left another 17 injured.

Instead of just brushing the message off, Edelman took it upon himself to contact his assistant Shannen Moen about the unsafe threat.

A college student who tipped off Edelman tells 7News that he noticed the comment, which said: "I'm going to shoot my school up watch the news".

Moen located the comment by user "its_ya_boiii_aidan" under a photo Edelman posted March 25.

Moen has reached out to the sender of the direct message who gave the warning about Edelman; however, she has not received any response back. "We take these threats very seriously. Like we tell everybody, if you see something, if you hear something, say something".

"Thankfully, this kid said something", he said. "We're going to send him something, a care package, just for his work". The teenager was taken to a juvenile detention center and charged with making a false report of a threat of terrorism, which could keep him detained for four years.

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is beloved in Foxborough for his efforts on the field, but he played the role of real-life hero and may have saved dozens of lives.
