  • Poisoned Russian Spy May Never Recover Mental Functions, British Judge Says

A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry called the European and United States measures "prejudiced, biased and hypocritical", and said Moscow will definitely respond.

The UK attack, which targeted Skripal at a busy shopping center, was the first offensive use of nerve agent in Europe since World War II.

"The European Council condemns as much as possible the recent assault in Salisbury, expresses the deepest sympathy for all of whose lives it has been threatened, and gives its support to the ongoing investigation", says the joint statement of the EU.

Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats earlier this week after accusing the latter of poisoning the Sergei and Yulia with a military grade nerve agent Novichok.

White House spokesman Raj Shah said Washington was considering its options but did not provide details. Russia's ambassador to the European Union, Vladimir Chizhov, told reporters that "the Russian state had nothing against" Skripal.

Trump called Putin to congratulate him after he won his fourth presidential term last Sunday despite warnings from his national security advisers and also defended it saying it was a "good thing".

Last week, the United Kingdom expelled 23 Russian diplomats and their families to Moscow, citing national security concerns.

While 74 percent of the respondents said the poisoning adversely affected Russian-British ties, 59 percent said Moscow should pursue negotiations and take part in an worldwide investigation of the poisoning. In this regard, British Prime Minister Theresa May ordered the expulsion of the Russian diplomatic mission. The EU leaders meeting in Brussels discussed the attack and made a decision to support Britain's assessment that Russian Federation was responsible for it, although initially some leaders anxious about the attribution of guilt.
