A Houston, Texas, businessman filed a class action lawsuit in federal court Friday against Facebook for sharing personal data of almost 50 million Facebook users with Cambridge Analytica, a company accused of using the information to post targeted political ads for President Donald Trump.

It has now been a week since it became known that the British data analytics contractor, which worked with Donald Trump's presidential campaign, retained private data from 50 million Facebook users despite claiming to have deleted it.

Law-enforcement officers raided Cambridge Analytica's headquarters in London, The Guardian reported late Friday.

The ministry has threatened to take legal action against companies and individuals engaging in any unauthorised use of such data.

CA's chief executive Alexander Nix has been suspended, while Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has been called on to give evidence to MPs.

The Victoria digital firm AggregateIQ is denying involvement in Cambridge Analytica's gathering and use of data about Facebook users.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also been requested by lawmakers in the U.S. and testify before investigative committees regarding Facebook's role in the data breach.

In addition, it was revealed this week that Cambridge Analytica's parent company SCL received almost £200,000 for two Ministry of Defence projects which would have given it access to top secret files.
